Paddle or boat to Lake Pokegema (Grand Rapids' premier lake for recreating and fishing) and the Mississippi River right from our lake access. Excellent hiking, snowshoeing and XC ski trails are within a 15-minute drive. 10 minutes to downtown Grand Rapids and Cohasset for groceries, breweries, live music, bike shops and coffee! Minimum 7-night stay. We love the simple and efficient design of this house. It has an 'Up North' feel with lots of natural wood complemented by bright and modern Scandinavian style decor. The layout is comfortable for groups of up of eight people. The master bedroom is located on the ground level and has a large closet and a quality queen bed. The upper level is a spacious sleeping area that's divided into a bedroom and a lounge/sleeping area by barn-style sliding doors. The bedroom has a queen bed and the lounge/sleeping area has a twin bunk and queen size sleeper sofa. The bedrooms have ample space for your group to bring in all of your gear if you're biking, kayaking, fishing, or here for a long-term stay. The screened-in porch and the firepit amongst the trees are two of our favorite spots. Other outdoor amenities include a charcoal BBQ, an enclosed outdoor shower, and a big lawn for games. Inside you'll find everything you need for a comfortable stay- a fully stocked kitchen, extra linens, quality mattresses, plenty of towels, a 55" 4K Smart TV, and games. The basement has a washer and dryer and space to store your bikes and equipment. We have a dock for sunset watching and keeping your boat. Our lake access is shallow and great for launching your kayak or paddleboarder. Tioga Beach and Tioga Pit are just a half-mile away. You can drop your boat in at our access or the nearby Pokegema Lake access. Boats and Equipment We have two kayaks and two paddleboards available for guests to use. We have dock space for your boat (the access is about 15 boat ride, 5 minute drive) Pontoon rent available: $180/day, fuel not included.

This unit has almost everything one could need- beautiful indoor swimming pool, hot tub, sauna, pool table with attached TV room. Also includes a full kitchen, living room, and laundry room. This unit also has an outdoor fire pit and only a short walking distance from our sandy shore on lake Pokegama. We also rent out jet skis, pontoons, and a wake boat to our guests, just ask for prices and availability. This is a great area for outdoor recreation with great fishing, water sports, mountain biking trails only a block away, and beautiful hiking and ATV trails close by. Along with many outdoor activities there are also many great places within a couples miles for shopping, a variety of restaurants, and casino. With our pool room our pool is heated, we have a hot tub that stays of 24/7 and there is a sauna if guests choose to use it, but in the summer months this room does get warm and is not air conditioned like the rest of the unit. We do have fans available for our guests.

You walk through a short hallway to come into the main living area of a family room, kitchen and dining room with an open floor plan and vaulted ceilings. The family room has two huge picture windows overlooking the Mississippi River. There is a four season porch off the dining room which goes out to a deck, and also overlooks the river. The master suite has a queen size bed and pull out sofa. There is a private walkout and deck from the master bedroom. The master bathroom has dual sinks, a jacuzzi tub and separate shower. The second bedroom is a guest master with a full size bed and twin size bed attached to a full bathroom. The 3rd bedroom has twin over full bunk bed in addition to a twin size bed. The porch has a futon that can convert to a full size bed. The basement has a finished half bath. The dining room table seats 6 and there are 4 additional stools at the kitchen counter. For rainy days there is a 42 inch flat screen television with cable, DVD player and Nintendo 64. There is also a variety of DVDs, puzzles, board games, books and cards. The cabin is equipped with air conditioning and heat. It is attached to city water. There is a fire pit to hold a bonfire. We have outdoor seating. The yard is perfect for playing games such as corn hole, frisbee stick, badminton, bocce ball or croquet. There is a basketball hoop in the driveway too! Grand Rapids is a 5 minute drive away. Pokegama golf course, Judy Garland Museum, Chippewa National Forest, bike and walking trails, deer and bird hunting, fishing, ATV's, Children's Discovery Museum, Forest History Center, Gilbert Mansion. There is really something for all! In the winter snowmobiling is huge in Grand Rapids with over 600 trails. There is also cross country skiing and snow shoeing.

About Siseebakwet (Sugar) Lake Quick Facts Siseebakwet Lake has 1,306 acres of some of the clearest water in Itasca County. The lake, which is commonly referred to as Sugar Lake, received its lengthy name from its early inhabitants, the Ojibway tribe, who called it "Ziinzibaakwad." This term means "sugar." It has a maximum depth of 105 feet and contains 5.8 miles of shoreline. There are two inlets, Sugar Brook from the west connecting Little Siseebakwet and Spring Lake(s) and a channel connecting South Sugar Lake from the southwest. The outlet, Sugar Brook, ultimately connects to Pokegama Lake to the east. However, a low head dam at the outlet of Siseebakwet likely limits fish immigration. Siseebakwet Lake is connected to its much smaller sister lake to the south, called South Sugar Lake. This 82-acre lake can be accessed through a narrow canal, which only small boats can pass through. There is also a small public access to land a small boat. Both of these lakes are great fisheries (See Fishing in “Activities” section below). The entire west end of Sugar lake was willed to the Department of Natural Resources, and is forever protected from development. This is a great place to view wildlife, as it is host to Bald Eagle, duck, and loon nests. It is also very common to see whitetail deer, beaver, fisher, fox and occasionally a grey wolf or black bear. Northern MN Tropics? In the summer months, namely July and August, it is common to see turquoise waters of Sugar Lake light up like the Caribbean. There are only a handful of lakes in the state that experience this rare phenomenon. The combination of water clarity and mineral composition cause the lake to sparkle like the Mediterranean on a sunny day. So if you haven’t experienced Sugar Lake in the summer months, it is a must do for the bucket list. What to do? Summer Boating – The 6 miles of Shoreline make it a perfect afternoon activity to putts around the lake in the pontoon or your boat (ask about renting a boat, pontoon, or jetski during your stay). Pack up your cooler and grab some apps and explore the lake. The ‘tour’ will take you anywhere from 1 to 3 hours depending on how you push the throttle. Ask how to get into South Sugar Lake. Accessible by jet ski, Kayak, Canoe, or Small boat (16’ or less). South Sugar Lake is a much different experience and worth the little extra effort. SUPing and Canoeing – The Crystal Turquoise waters are perfect for the Stand Up Paddle board experience. There is also a Canoe available to skirt the waters like the Ojibwa used to. Fishing – Sugar lake is spectacular fishery. Home to Walleye, Northern Pike, Small Mouth Bass, Large Mouth Bass, Blue Gill, Sunfish, Whitefish, Eel Pout, crappie and Sucker; you are bound to put something in the live well. Fishing is best on Sugar early morning and evening, but with the right lure and bait Fish can be caught throughout the day. With adequate structure, feed, weed beds, and depths, Sugar will keep you interested. If you are looking for that trophy 30” walleye or, that Pig Pike, Sugar is your place. For an entire different fishing experience, try South Sugar. South Sugar is an action packed lake full of Bass and Pan fish. This a great place to bring the kids if you are looking for a lot of action. Talk to Lewie if your are interested in spending the day with a local fishing guide. Golfing – There are 3 great golf options all within 15 short minutes away. Sugar Brooke Golf course is just across the bay at Sugar Lake Lodge. Sugar Hills, A former ski resort, is just steps away from the cabin. There are enough trails here to keep you busy for days, and there is adequate elevation for good down hill action as well. The rolling hardwoods and great vistas make the sugar hills a hidden gem. Winter Snowmobiling – “The Shore” is a very centralized location for a mecca of groomed trail systems and lake riding. See the trail map for loops and options locally, or consult us for a ‘custom’ route; guided trips and Sled rentals available. Ask for further details. X-Country Skiing and Snowshoeing – The Sugar Hills are locally maintained for both classic and skate skiing alike. This gem of a trail system is just steps from the comfort of the cabin, and has loops to appeal to all skill levels. Another great option is to skirt the entire perimeter of Sugar Lake. This 5.8 mile loop is great exercise and great fun. The “shingle mill” logging road system also offers hundreds of miles of pristine, wild trails to get lost in. Ask about how to get here. Ice Fishing – Sugar is a great lake for ice-fishing, but is usually one of the last in the area to freeze over. Consult with us to determine if the conditions are safe before venturing out. Snow biking - Once again, the Sugar hills offer great opportunities for this growing recreation. Shingle Mill roads, also offer up miles of terrain to explore. Sledding – The sugar hills are a great place to get some speed behind that saucer or toboggan. Spend the evening in the Tee-Pee – If you want to get a real idea of how the Ojibwa used to do it (minus the convenient propane heater) Set up a little picnic in the Tee-Pee. Light the lantern, play a board game, and let your imagination wander to centuries past. A couple things to note (summer AND winter) • Bon-Fire – Please enjoy the bonfire. We chose the location as it is great vantage for sunsets , as well as nice breeze to keep the bugs away. However, be aware of the proximity to the bank as it would be one hellova tumble. Also, you are welcome to use some split wood to get the fire going, but please try to use the ‘bonfire wood’ - the un-split logs to keep your fire cranking. • Toilet and Water Usage – The cabin is on a very fragile septic system, so keep that in mind when using the plumbing. Only flush toilet paper and human waste down the toilet, as anything else would damage the system. The Tap water comes from a shallow well, about 25’ deep. The tap water is just fine to drink. From the well, the water goes through a whole house filter, and then goes through a water softening system before it makes it to the faucet. There is a little more iron in the water than conventional city water, but many people prefer the taste. If it isn’t for you, please enjoy the filtered water form the fridge. The water here has been through yet another filtration process. There is a PVC pipe petruding through the East side of the cabin. This comes from the sump pump and is the excess water from when the softener system recharges itself. • Shoreline – The Sugar Shore’s beachfront is 150’ of beautiful hard sand beach. The drop-off is very gradual, which makes it great for kids. We do our best to pick rocks, but every winter the ice carves and digs them back up again. We recommend bringing Teva’s or water shoes to keep feet from getting sore. • Trash - Please put trash bags in the exterior canisters, and remember the cover. Raccoons will help themselves otherwise. • Grill – The igniter switch sometimes doesn’t work, so please use the igniter wand provided. Please turn Propane tank off and cover when done. • Fireplace – The damper should be open, and the fireplace drafts naturally. Please Keep Grate over fireplace when a fire is burning. The Space Our two cozy, lakeside cabins sit side-by-side along the lakeshore adjacent to our own home. They feature natural light all day long, with high ceilings and large windows that look out onto the water. Each cabin has a loft with a quality king-sized bed and two double beds in the lower level bedroom. Together the cabins sleep 8 people. Cabin 1 sleeps 4 and has a dining table for 4. Cabin 2 has a slightly larger living and kitchen area with a dining table that accommodates 6 people, beds for 4, and space for a queen air mattress. It’s is a combination of modern and rustic, with warm, natural wood finishes, an open living and dining space, and a kitchen and bathroom stocked with everything you need for a comfortable stay. There is Roku connected TV in each unit (Note that these are not set up to use with your personal streaming service and is NOT connected to basic channels) and super-fast WiFi. They are winterized and available all winter so you can curl up by the fireplace and warm your toes after skiing or with a good book after a long week of work. What we love about it We love that we feel tucked away, but we're close to everyone. It's just 10 minutes to downtown Grand Rapids and 10 minutes north to the National Forest. Being located on a peninsula also means that we have lakeshore on either side instead of neighbors. Each cabin has its own firepit and charcoal grill in front, but otherwise all outdoor are shared. You can expect to see other guests or our family enjoying the beach, grilling out, or fishing on the dock. The surrounding area has exceptional XC ski trails within 15 minutes. We also groom our own circuit on the lake. You can access snowmobiling trails directly from our property via the lake. The Lake Prairie Lake is quiet and has little boat traffic, perfect for paddling and fishing. We have two kayaks and a canoe available for guests. Visit the rocky gorge, reminiscent of the Boundary Waters, at the south end of the lake, take in sunrises and lake breezes on the dock, and enjoy watching beavers swim past and listening to the loons sing. The water is shallow and gradual along our little sand beach, perfect for small children to splash and build sand castles. We have two docks and space for two boats. The Property The Point was a resort in years passed and it still has a resort feel to it today, just smaller, slower-paced and more peaceful. Our family lives here on the property as well. Bass Lake is a very quiet 2,600 acre lake boasting of clean, clear, deep water, quiet bays and some great fishing. The location is approximately 11 miles from town so you will have easy access to the conveniences and attractions that Grand Rapids has to offer but with all the seclusion, relaxation and enjoyment of lake life in the woods. Firewood, 2 Kayaks, Paddle Board, and a 4-person Paddle boat are included for all guests. Additionally, the home is equipped with exceptional high speed internet for those needing to maintain their connection to the outside world. Early mornings are best spent sipping coffee on the lakeside log swing listening to the loons. The sandy shore with the gentle slope into the lake is fun for all. With luck... fresh fish for lunch! Evenings on the porch give one a beautiful view of the lake. Memories with family and friends are created sitting around the fireplace or the fire ring near the lake in the evenings. The open plan allows for all to enjoy being together. There is also a side room when you need a place to relax and read. A kitchen counter with four stools make it fun to serve a snack and there is a dining table that can seat eight. Downstairs bedroom with ensuite includes both a walk- in shower and separate bathtub. Second floor bedroom has charming slanted eaves in the ceiling and a bathroom just next door. This bathroom has a shower and can share with the futon couch (sleeps 1-2) in the main room loft. Another futon couch (sleeps 1-2) is in a side room downstairs and has its own toilet and sink nearby. Large parking area allows easily for boat or snowmobile trailers and all vehicles to park conveniently with short staircase down to the house. This quiet, year-round up north getaway always has something to offer! This area is known for it's snowmobiling, ice fishing, and hunting on the off-season! In the summer, the fishing is some of the best in MN and there are many events in Grand Rapids including the races. The large home sits on a beautiful, level lake lot. This four bedroom Lakehome sits on the south side of Deer Lake in a quiet bay. We have completely remodeled the home from top to bottom. New floors, Quartz counter-tops, new cabinets, appliances, lighting and updated finishing throughout. This cabin is the perfect combination of rustic and modern. Our cabin has 4 bedrooms,+ Loft 2 baths and comfortably sleeps 10. We also have a laundry room which is very convenient for our quests. Deer Lake is one of the premier lakes in Minnesota, often mentioned in Travel and Leisure. Often called the Lake of Changing colors, the mineral content of the crystal blue waters change colors throughout the day are one of the many unique things about this gorgeous lake! Great swimming beach and a dock made out of maintenance free material so you won't get splinters. Our cabin is decorated with scandinavian influences and all of our art work in the cabin is from local artists. We also have a fire pit area, a nice side deck for sun and grilling, and another gathering spot under the trees. WIFI, Flat Screen television for movies (located in the loft) , cable television and a sonos music player in home. All of the beds and mattresses are new in the home. ( and very comfortable) Deer Lake is also one of the best fishing lakes in the state. Easy access to the Chippewa National Forest and the Soumi Trail system. The home features a large deck for grilling and dining and also provides stunning views of the lake. There is a gradual slope to the lake ( no stairs or steps). Also included is a fire-pit area and a second hang-out, a gathering spot in the shade. **** New Outdoor Hot Tub installed January 7th 2018. Seats 8!
